J & P Bike Shop, independently owned by Mickey Reed, is the oldest bike shop in Sherwood. It opened in 1981 in a tiny brick building, starting out very small, but the business grew until it was too big for the shop. It was moved to the current location at 7910 Hwy 107 in September of 1991. The new shop is over twice the size of the old place, which allowed the inventory to expand, too.
Mickey's experience in repairing and assembling bicycles began over 20 years ago. He learned early that pride in a job well done was worth the effort. This effort has led him to owning his own business and serving the needs of bicyclists.
In 1992, David Larson, an outstanding bike enthusiast and salesman, became an additional employee at the shop. He has raced bmx and worked on bikes since he was twelve and has also been a professional assembler of bikes. David started expanding the bmx side of the shop as well as getting more familiar with the mountain bike world. At the same time, he took over Track Operator duties at Bonzai BMX in Burns Park. He managed to enlarge the sport and the business of bmx at the same time. He is an invaluable asset (shop manager) to the business. We also sponsor a bmx and mt bike racing team that have done very well.
Mickey's wife, Lee, is a part-time helper in the store. She is a new addition to the business, but she has a desire to please the customer. Lee's never met a stranger. She provides the friendliness and humor needed in a business.
We take a different approach to bike sales and service. We want you to be happy with your new bike. We won't try to push you into the next higher model bike. Most of the time we can find a less expensive model that will meet your needs. We may wind up asking you more questions than you ask us just to make sure you get the right bike. We don't believe sending you out the door is the end of the sale. We have the absolute best service policy of anyone - bar none. Learn more about it in our Services section.
"Since 1988 I have had the opportunity to do business with J & P. I've bought seven bikes through the years and keep coming back for many reasons. I like their 'soft sell' approach, competitive prices, and most importantly, the excellent and fairly priced service on my bikes. I've always said, 'The bike doesn't make the biker,' but now I can say, 'The bike shop does make the bike!' Thanks for everything Mickey and Dave!"
